Twitter Version:
Mom w/2 college kids looks 4 her own voice by subjecting others 2 her observations #FollowMe #UnlessYouHateIt #ThenDontTellMe #SoEmbarrassed
(Yea… you can keep reading if you want to but this is pretty much it. Exactly.)
Literary Version:
I have been broken more times than I can count; however, through faith, the honesty of friends, reading my Bible, prayer and writing, I am starting to add layers of varnish to the broken pieces. I don’t want to be a cracked, hole-filled, so-fragile-that-if-you-breathe-on-it-it-will-break thing hiding in the deepest reaches of my being anymore. I want to be a wonderful mosaic of patterns and experiences that can be openly displayed, knocked over with a bowling ball, be picked up and still be able to function without any noticeable injury. And, that is what I intend to share with you – glimpses of God in the ordinary, etchings of my complete undoing and details about the process of my remolding.
(If you, too, have been knocked down by life but refuse to be knocked out, if you are also working on re-building your life, and wondering if we share a story, you are welcome to read my Blogging 101 Days 1 & 2 post. Go ahead. Check it out. Chances are that even if the circumstances weren’t exactly the same, the feelings were – even if I keep them hidden in my partially Vulcan (okay, German) ❤ . But read it quick! That post is going to be deleted after Blogging 101. ❤ )
Poetic Version:
What is divinity if it can come
Only in silent shadows and in dreams?
Shall she not find in comforts of the sun,
In pungent fruit and bright green wings, or else
In any balm or beauty of the earth,
Things to be cherished like the thought of heaven?
Divinity must live within herself:
Passions of rain, or moods in falling snow;
Grievings in loneliness, or unsubdued
Elations when the forest blooms; gusty
Emotions on wet roads on autumn nights;
All pleasures and all pains, remembering
The bough of summer and the winter branch.
These are the measure destined for her soul.~ Wallace Stevens, Sunday Morning
(I have loved poetry ever since I discovered Emily Dickinson in the set of Encyclopedias I was reading through in 3rd Grade. Yes, I did that. I also spent years reading the Dictionary as bedtime material. Don’t ask.)
“THAT Mom” Version
Hip Hop Mom Version:
T-Sizzle, ’nuff said. Word.
(My son’s friends have been calling me T-Sizzle ever since I told them I would basically respond to anything that wasn’t obscene. In truth, I’m pretty dorky and they are metal/rocker kids. But going places with guys in Metallica and Pantera T-shirts yelling, “Yo! T-Sizzle. Can I get this?!” “Hey! T-Sizzle! Check it out!” and watching people’s reactions when a 5’3″ slightly overweight suburban mom answers? Hilarious.)
The Personal Ad Version:
Almost S WF (religious) seeks a place to express herself and figure things out on paper/screen. Enjoys reading, art, Sunday afternoon phone calls with her daughter, poetry, books, coffee shops, listening to her son practice guitar and play with his band, reading, discovering cheap but pretentious restaurants, books, going for walks (not hikes – that is too much work), reading, NaNoWriMo (yes, for the last 5 years or so, she has disappeared for the entire month of November), comedy clubs, books, movies, hanging out with her friends and family, reading, playing games, books and a whole bunch of other things she hasn’t discovered yet. Some she may even choose to explore in real life. Click ‘Follow’ and come along for the ride!

May I say how much I enjoy your “About” page? Individually, we each wear so many “hats,” and I love the way you explain yours here.
Sorry, Terri–I see that you have already been nominated for this award two other times (Lucile didn’t inform us on our “About” pages, but you can read her post). I almost didn’t accept this one–probably my last “acceptance” speech here at WordPress: http://sappyasatree.wordpress.com/2014/10/14/the-liebster-award-who-are-the-bloggers-in-your-neighborhood/

Thank you so much, Terri, for coming over to visit, and deciding to follow. You’ve got a great blog (two blogs, actually) here yourself. I’m quite a critical person, and also don’t say what I don’t really mean. Believe me, I plan to read it all!! 😀

This is a funny and warm About page. I recommend moving the Bruce Lee quote down so that the reader can get to the About stuff more quickly. I suggest one or two sentences to open up the About page that gives the reader a pretty good idea what they can expect if they want to explore your blog. Entice a bit more up top and then jump into the visuals, humor, personal details. I’m new here, so take those opinions with a grain of salt. And I hope you’ll keep blogging 🙂

Thanks for the feedback! The Bruce Lee quote is my tagline and I think it pops up whether I want it to or not. 😉 But I could eliminate the first photo altogether. I had originally intended to do only one of those blurbs. I asked for opinions and friends recommended keeping all of them. And, its grown on me. But, you are right. I have given no thought to order / placement. They appear in the order they popped into my head. So, I have some pondering to do. Thanks again!

@Jeebling I picked a new tagline and with directions to customize the header I was able to remove the distracting stuff. Great suggestion! I think it works. 🙂

It’s important to me that when my kids watch me walk through this season, they do not see a bitter, revengeful, accusatory woman or a woman who stays and helps hide his issues, afraid of what people will say. I don’t want them to see someone they need to take care or a woman who is a victim. I want them to watch me walk through the fire and see just me. It is bad enough they had to lose the person we all thought their dad was, I don’t want them to lose their mom, too.
I also want them to know, as someone else so succinctly described in their tag line, “obstacles make the story.” I want my kids to know that when bad things happen, they are allowed to cry. They are allowed to scream. They are allowed to feel it down to the depths of their being. They are allowed to learn the lessons they were supposed to learn. But, they are not allowed to let it change the person they were created to be.
Maxine, I think you’re my new best friend. 😉 Thanks for your comments. They were a breath of fresh air.

Love this! And love your sense of humor (considering what you’ve been through!) Sounds like you are well on your way to becoming that beautiful mosaic piece of art that you so eloquently described! Way to go! 🙂 Oh, and really love that last picture of you and your pose in the pointy sunglasses with your mouth puckered. You are stylin’! 🙂

Awwww…. thanks! ❤ I actually hate talking about myself and didn't know what to do. I asked someone which one I should keep and they said, all of them. So, I did. 🙂 (And I'm thinking you ARE creative. I peeked at your photography and it's brilliant! You speak in pictures. 🙂 )
